SpaceX Dragon arrives at ISS with Cargo

October 10, 2012 Keenan Brugh

Today marks another exciting first in space exploration.  Earlier this morning, the unmanned Dragon spacecraft arrived at the International Space Station.  The mission is bringing nearly 1,000 lbs of critical supplies to the ISS and its crew. Never before has a private company delivered cargo to the international space station as a commercial enterprise.   This is the first of SpaceX's 12 planned supply missions under a NASA contract worth $1.6 billion.  This marks a pivotal transition of advanced technologic capabilities from a government agency into the private sector.  Elon Musk and his entrepreneurial team should be celebrating this victory, though in reality they're probably working harder than ever.
