How to Draw a Phish Song

June 30, 2014 Contributor

Arts Beat, the Culture Lounge posted a video today that is a unique perspective on music, “How to Draw a Phish Song.” Ben Ratliff interviewed Mike Hamad, the "diagramist" artist that creates visual charts of music to describe what he hears. Last July, Hamad missed out on attending a Phish concert, but was able to listen live to an open-ended version of “Tweezer,” which is now known as a career highlight for Phish. His diagram or song map picked up popularity after he tweeted a picture of it. A year later he has now created about 100 song maps. Hamad has a Ph.D. in musicology, so he knows a thing a two about music.
