Workforce Development

June 13, 2015 Tammy Schaffer

Colorado is changing the way the workforce matches up with employers.

The Colorado Workforce Development Council has recognized that employers are increasingly disappointed with the available workforce. At the same time, skilled labor, and recent graduates aren't finding the jobs for which they are qualified. To add insult to the injuries incurred on this uneven playing field, various industries end up recruiting their employees from out of state.

Stephanie Steffens Veck, Director of the Colorado Workforce Development Council believes there is a better way to match workers and employers, and it involves intervention well before any resumes or job postings are created. Veck is working with the State of Colorado, key industries and various job sectors to identify the kinds of jobs that will be available - and incentivizing the proper training for those jobs.

Stephanie joins us, along with Emily Lesh, Assistant Director of the Colorado Workforce Development Council, to explain strategies for Talent Pipeline and industry led career pathways.

This interview is the first of a series of Workforce Development programs which will be featured by Connect & Collaborate, on 710 KNUS, on the second Saturday of each month. Learn about the collaborative efforts to target and inspire students, and prepare them for the workforce of Colorado's future.

Listen Saturday at 1:00 PM on 710 KNUS –  Please let us know what you think of our program, either by commenting here or on Facebook at Colorado Business Roundtable or join the discussion on Twitter @ColoradoBRT
