It may sound like the plans of a cartoon mad scientist, but the FAA has approved Nevada to begin testing drone aircraft usage in weather control. The program allows the state to test whether drone use will lower the cost of airborne cloud seeding.

Cloud seeding -a form of weather manipulation where silver dioxide is mixed into clouds to cause precipitation- is most effective when done from the air. But airborne cloud seeding is also more expensive than ground-based versions of the process.
