Changing the World through Entrepreneurship

October 14, 2012 Sandy Grason

Sandy Grason drops in on a packed house at BDNT- Boulder Denver New Tech Meet UP on a night when The Unreasonable Institute takes over. The Unreasonable Institute's mission is to get entrepreneurs what they need to scale impact. They work with entrepreneurs that are solving social and environmental problems around the world. They run a mentorship and training program for 6 months.

Sandy got a chance to talk with Debbie Ally of BDNT about what tonight's presentations were all about along with a couple of The Unreasonable Institute's entrepreneurs:

  • Cameron Goldi-Scot of Musoni-  they use mobile phone technology to give people financial services that don't normally qualify for traditional banking services.
  • Erine Gray from Aunt Bertha.com which is like travelocity for social services.
Along with Teju Ravilochan from The Unreasonable Institute who breaks it all down and explains how you can get involved with some of these companies that are seriously, Changing The World.

David Cohen on Tech Stars, Mentors & Life

October 10, 2012 Sandy Grason

The Starto TV team got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Tech Stars facility and met some of this year's founders.  David Cohen sat down with Sandy Grason and Chris Franks to share some wisdom, tips & advice and a few laughs. We talked about:

  • the last time he was afraid
  • what his average work day looks like
  • how to tell if you're an entrepreneur or a wantrepreneur
  • graceful failure
  • how to choose a mentor

Some of my favorite quotes from David are:

You learn more from your failures than from your successes, for sure.

A lot of what Tech Stars is doing is teaching companies how to be better entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs do stuff and Wantrepreneurs talk about doing stuff.

Entrepreneurs run through walls.

Do what you love.

How To Predict the Next Big Start Up Trend

October 3, 2012 Sandy Grason

You want to create the next Facebook? In this episode of the Drawing Board, Mike Stemple, the Founder and CEO of Mosoro, teaches us a powerful tool to identify trends and how to capture the next great opportunity for you to build your start up.

According to Stemple, too many entrepreneurs focus on the small leaps forward as opposed to building a company for where the market will be in the coming years.

Watch this video and learn:

  • how to spot the next big trend
  • how to become a subject matter expert
  • how to avoid building a "me too" company and get ahead of the wave
