Moolta: Changing the way Charities Work

February 5, 2013 Nathan Meyer

How far would you go for charity? Would you [lightbox title="Title" href="http://nocamels.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/moolta-460x250.jpg"]shower in a public fountain?[/lightbox] Would you [lightbox title="Title" href="http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/PQnk1tMbSdg/mqdefault.jpg"]eat paper with a knife and fork?[/lightbox] What if someone offered to donate money to your favorite charity, and all  you had to do was drink [lightbox title="Title" href="http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4n9xxsalo1qg1qbpo1_500.gif"]something truly foul?[/lightbox] A new startup called [lightbox type="iframe" title="Title" href="http://www.moolta.com"]Moolta[/lightbox] wants to feature you doing ridiculous things for glory and philanthropy.  All you have to do is be willing to [lightbox title="Title" href="http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w512/JesalBrah/ancient-aliens-guy-1.png"]look stupid[/lightbox] on camera.  Check it out!

David Cohen on Tech Stars, Mentors & Life

October 10, 2012 Sandy Grason

The Starto TV team got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Tech Stars facility and met some of this year's founders.  David Cohen sat down with Sandy Grason and Chris Franks to share some wisdom, tips & advice and a few laughs. We talked about:

  • the last time he was afraid
  • what his average work day looks like
  • how to tell if you're an entrepreneur or a wantrepreneur
  • graceful failure
  • how to choose a mentor

Some of my favorite quotes from David are:

You learn more from your failures than from your successes, for sure.

A lot of what Tech Stars is doing is teaching companies how to be better entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs do stuff and Wantrepreneurs talk about doing stuff.

Entrepreneurs run through walls.

Do what you love.

How to create climate wealth with Jigar Shah

November 13, 2013 Tim Bungum

Creating Climate Wealth: Unlocking The Impact Economy” is a new book by Jigar Shah, founder of the largest solar services company, SunEdison. Shah internationally recognized for revolutionizing the now multi-billion-dollar solar energy industry, tells how a business model, the power purchase agreement, unlocked the massive potential of the solar industry. He explains that rather than waiting for yet to be developed technology, business model innovation is the key to attract mainstream capital to unlock transformational change in other business that will stave off the impacts of climate change. Shah makes a compelling case for reaching our 2020 climate change goals through, his “100/100 Plan”: 100,000 companies worldwide, each generating $100 million in sales.
